The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Work Zone Safety campaign continues its message that everyone must continue recognizing the dangers of reckless driving through highway work zones. The message is being heard. The number of deaths in Florida construction zones has been steadily declining since 2005 when 137 people were killed in work zones. For the first time since 2003, the number of deaths have dropped below 100 to 93 in 2008.
Most crashes in construction zones are preventable, as are the deaths and injuries that occur.
